WAYNE ROONEY will get a King’s reception when he returns to Manchester United.

That is the view of former Manchester United boss David Moyes. 

Rooney, 31, returns to Old Trafford for the first time since ending his 13-year association with the club with Everton on Sunday (4:00pm). 

The forward holds the club-record goalscorer accolade at after banging in 253 goals in 559 appearances. 

He also won 11 major trophies including five Premier League titles and a Champions League crown. 

And Moyes, who succeeded Sir Alex Ferguson as manager of United but was sacked just 10 months later, reckons Rooney will be treated like royalty on his return.

“I think he’ll be given a reception like a King after everything he achieved at Manchester United,” Moyes told the Mirror

“Wayne served United incredibly well, through the best years of his career, and became their all-time leading goalscorer.

“It will be emotional for him, I’m sure, going back, but everything that has been put in front of Wayne, he’s always been able to handle.

“Since he was 16, when he broke into the Everton team, then playing for England and then joining United, he’s always stepped up a level every time he’s been asked.

“United was such a big part of his career, so it will be an emotional day for him, but he knows he’s there to do a job for Everton and he’ll put that to one side.”
