Jamie Carragher: Wayne Rooney is one of the football legends
That is according to Sky Sports pundit and former Manchester United right-back Gary Neville.
Rooney goes up against his former side for the first time this afternoon when Everton visit the Theatre of Dreams (4pm).
The former United and England captain won five Premier League titles and a Champions League during his 13-year spell and also became the club’s all-time leading goalscorer.
Neville, who played alongside Rooney for seven years, has paid tribute to him ahead of today’s match.

"Yes he is (a legend),” Neville said on Sky Sports of Wayne Rooney.
“Obviously there are some fans who find it difficult to overcome the issues around him, the transfer issues, obviously there were a couple of them in his career.
“But the goals he scored, the performances, the trophies.
“That period between 2006 and 2011 was a golden period for Manchester United.

“Three European cup finals, obviously came up against a great Barcelona team in two of them which were one of the greatest teams of all time.
“Many Premier League titles and a high-level player for England and Manchester United.
“Definitely a legend, his achievements were great.”
Rooney was named in the starting XI for today's game at Old Trafford.
