Arsenal news: Aaron Ramsey was Man of Match v Chelsea... I could have chosen six - Murphy

AARON RAMSEY should have been given the Man of the Match award for his display against Chelsea.

Arsene Wenger: We were close to winning against Chelsea

That is the verdict of BBC Sport pundit Danny Murphy.

The Gunners' away record has been dismal this season, as they lost 4-0 away to Liverpool, but they picked up a point at Stamford Bridge.

David Luiz was sent off for a reckless challenge as the Blues failed to score in a competitive home fixture for the first time in 27 games.

Arsenal defender Shkodran Mustafi collected the Man of the Match accolade for his dogged defensive performance.

And Murphy thinks Ramsey would have been a deserving recipient of the award.

“I could have picked six of them [Arsenal] for Man of the Match, but I want to look at Aaron [Ramsey]," he said.

“He took a lot of criticism from the defeat at Liverpool for a lack of discipline.

“He’s a brilliant attacking midfielder and he scores big goals no doubt about that.

Danny Murphy thinks Aaron Ramsey should have won man of the match

“I thought his decision-making was excellent - he knew when to go forward and when he was in good possession, to vacate the space and see if his mate was protecting him.

“You can’t take away his attacking instincts, but choose to make sure when he does it.”

Arsenal are 12th in the table, with seven points from five games, while Chelsea are third, three points behind joint Premier League leaders Manchester City and Manchester United.
