Man Utd news: Jose Mourinho’s side are yet to be tested so far - Darren Bent

That’s according to former Tottenham striker Darren Bent, who claims United are yet to be tested this season.

The Red Devils are unbeaten in their opening five league games of the season, including a 4-0 thrashing of Everton at the weekend.

But they are yet to play any of the sides which finished in the top five last season.

That will come next month when they play Liverpool, Tottenham and Chelsea all in the space of three weeks.

And Bent, who has scored 106 Premier League goals throughout his career, believes not until then will United know where they are in conjunction with their rivals. 

“That’s when we’re going to find out how good they really are,” Bent told Sky Sports’ The Debate show.

“They are a big powerful side but with those next six games coming up, that’s going to tell us an awful lot about his squad and how good they actually are.

“As you’ve seen so far this season they’ve been walking through teams by three or four.

“They’ve not really been tested so far so with these games coming up we’re going to find out exactly how good they are.”

Mourinho has a knack for grinding out results against big sides and Townsend believes he will not change his approach at United this season. 

“Mourinho doesn’t like to get beat in those big games that really matter,” Townsend said.

“If those games are tight and if there’s nothing much in it and he has to walk away with a point I think whether it’s home or away he’ll do that.”
