JOSE MOURINHO reportedly wants Manchester United to agree terms with Marouane Fellaini over a new deal before the end of the year.

Fellaini is yet to agree to an extension with his current deal at Old Trafford running out at the end of the season.

It leaves United in a precarious position with Fellaini able to sign a pre-contract with another club at the turn of the year.

Mourinho is known to be a huge admirer of the Belgium international and with Pogba out injured for the foreseeable future, he is likely to be handed a more minutes in the heart of midfield.

Fellaini turns 30 in November and United’s policy has been to offer a one year rolling contract to players after they reach that age.

He has attracted interest from clubs in Italy and Turkey but ESPN FC claim the former Everton star is happy to remain at Old Trafford.

It is said Mourinho is personally pushing for a new deal to be agreed for Fellaini to ensure clubs from China and Turkey are put off from putting in an offer in the New Year.

Fellaini has struggled to win over United supporters ever since his move from Everton in 2013.

But Mourinho has helped the 29-year-old rediscover some his best form and has won over some critics with his performances in the heart of midfield for United.

And the Portuguese coach was clear in his assessment of Fellaini last week when he said how vital he is to his plans at United.

"He's a very important player for me, much more important than what you can imagine," Mourinho said.

"I feel weaker without Fellaini in my squad, it doesn't matter if he is in team or the bench so if his condition is improved I will select him but I cannot say yet."
