Man Utd News: Jose Mourinho could deliver signing of Monaco star Fabinho for £52m

MANCHESTER UNITED boss Jose Mourinho could deliver the signing of Monaco star Fabinho for £52million in January, according to reports.

Monaco's Fabinho storms off pitch during training

Fabinho was widely expected to leave Monaco over the summer after helping Leonardo Jardim’s side win Ligue 1 last term.

Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United were both heavily linked, but ultimately decided to allocate funds elsewhere.

PSG raided Monaco for Kylian Mbappe, while United made former Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic their midfield lynchpin for the current campaign.

Yet Italian website Calcio Mercato claim that Mourinho’s interest in the player remains strong.

PSG were thought to be frontrunners in the battle for his signature at first, but Financial Fair Play rules are now set to limit their spending.

Man Utd News: Jose Mourinho could yet lure Fabinho away from Monaco

Unai Emery’s team are more likely to be offloading players in January than signing them, with Julian Draxler, Angel Di Maria and Lucas Moura all set to be shown the door.

And Calcio Mercato say United could now benefit from that.

It is said Mourinho’s side have been told an offer of £52m would be enough for Jardim to part with the 23-year-old.

PSG and Serie A champions Juventus have also been quoted a similar price - but the Old Lady are unwilling to match that.

Additionally, whether they need Fabinho after the arrival of Blaise Matuidi remains to be seen.

Man Utd News: Jose Mourinho wanted to sign Fabinho before settling for Nemanja Matic

Speaking back in June, the Monaco utility man confirmed his desire to work under Mourinho at Old Trafford.

“In terms of managers, I would also like to work with great managers to learn more about football, learn new things. There are great managers in football,” he said.

“Guardiola, Zidane, who’s doing great work, Tite, also doing a great job in the national team, Simeone.

“These are managers I would like to work with some day.”

When prompted for a response on Mourinho he replied: “Mourinho, too. He is an excellent manager. No doubt.”
