Liverpool news: Adam Lallana closing in on return after injury lay-off

ADAM LALLANA has stepped up his recovery from a thigh injury by running outside for the first time since August.

Liverpool suffered a major blow on the eve of the new season when Lallana sustained the muscle problem during the Audi Cup final and manager Jurgen Klopp ruled the England international out for at least three months.

But the 29-year-old's has had no setbacks in his rehabilitation and Liverpool have confirmed the midfielder is making tentative steps back to competitive action.

Liverpool's statement said: "Adam Lallana took another important step in his rehabilitation on Thursday morning by running outside at Melwood for the first time since sustaining a thigh injury.

"The Liverpool midfielder was out jogging at the training ground as he continues to recover from the issue he picked up during the Audi Cup final at the beginning of August."

Earlier this month, Lallana opened up about having to be away from his team-mates due to injury.

“I’m getting on well – slowly but surely in the background,” Lallana said.

“It’s great to see the lads start so well, we’ve been playing some brilliant football. It has been great to be at Anfield for a couple of those games as well, and the Champions League game.

“I don’t like staying away from it, I quite like being in the mix and involved in the games, especially the home games. 

“I’m well into the way on my rehab now and it’s going as well as it can. I’m obviously looking forward to being back.”
