Liverpool News: Jurgen Klopp says Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was injured against Leicester

LIVERPOOL manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was injured when playing against Leicester in midweek.

Klopp looks utterly unimpressed by Oxlade-Chamberlain's pass

Chamberlain has endured a rocky start to his Liverpool career after arriving from Arsenal for £40million on deadline day.

The England international was unable to make an impact against Manchester City on his debut, and also struggled against Burnley at Anfield in a 1-1 draw.

However, his worst display yet came in midweek against Leicester in the Carabao Cup.

The midfielder was blasted by sections of the Anfield support for a toothless display as the Reds saw their hopes of domestic glory dashed.

Yet Klopp, speaking ahead of Liverpool's rematch against the Foxes this weekend, has defended his summer signing.

And, in shock news, the German said his difficult performance was down to an injury.

“He had some unlucky situations and little problem with his calf,” Klopp said.

“I’m not in doubt (about his quality)”.

The Liverpool manager also insisted his side need to stop conceding the first goal of the game.

“We responded really well to conceding first goal vs Sevilla and Burnley, but we didn’t vs Leicester.

"I prefer not to concede 1st goal.”

Liverpool take on Leicester on Saturday night (5.30pm).
