Chelsea have agreed to sell Diego Costa to Atletico Madrid

Diego Costa has been awol since the summer and has refused to return to Chelsea after a falling out with Antonio Conte.

The Blues boss informed Costa via text he would no longer be needed, prompting the Spain international to demand a move to Atletico Madrid.

Despite a move not being agreed over the summer, Costa has now got his way and a deal between both clubs has been reached.

"Chelsea football club has today agreed terms with Atletico Madrid for the transfer of Diego Costa," a club statement read.

"The transfer will be subject to the agreement of personal terms and a medical."

Chelsea were demanding Costa return to London to train before sanctioning his sale.

However, after weeks of back-and-forward with the striker and multiple fines they have finally agreed to cash in.

Speaking earlier this month about his future, Costa said: “My destination is already made.

“I must return to Atletico Madrid. It turns out that there is this impasse that Chelsea does not want to release me.

“But I believe that this situation will be resolved now on my return to Spain.”

Costa's return to Atletico is still subject to the agreement of personal terms and a medical.

He will not be able to join the Spanish side until January when the transfer window reopens and Atletico's ban is lifted.

The 28-year-old has spent two spells with Atletico, between 2007 and 2009 and 2010 and 2014.

He has made 134 appearances for the La Liga giants, scoring 64 goals in all competitions.
