Alex Iwobi needs more end-product says Arsene Wenger

The Nigeria international was roundly praised for his solid performance on the left of midfield in the Gunners' 0-0 with Chelsea last weekend.

He also got more minutes under his belt in the second half against Doncaster Rovers, but made less of an impact.

While Ozil is fit to return against West Bromwich Albion on Monday, Iwobi will have done his chances of further game time no harm.

Indeed, the boss believes there are big things to come from the academy graduate.

Could Alex Iwobi be Arsenal's next Mesut Ozil?

“I like the fact that he can play in tight areas, that he turns the game forwards, that he’s very mobile,” Wenger told the club website.

“We forget sometimes that Alex is still a very young player and that there’s a lot more to come from him.

“There must be a lot more to come from him because he has more personality in the game now.

“We expect him to be more efficient in the final third offensively, because you feel there are goals in there and assists too.

“They have to come out. Add that to the fact that he allows the team to play very well and he will be a top-class player.”

Arsenal legend Ian Wright was full of praise for the 21-year-old after his performance against Chelsea, telling Match of the Day 2 that Iwobi ‘put a shift in’.

Iwobi has played just 91 minutes of Premier League action this season, but he’ll be looking to lick on following his manager’s words of encouragement.
