Brighton striker Glenn Murray desperate to impress in Premier League

Murray, 33, hardly played for Bournemouth after manager Eddie Howe paid £2.5m to take him to Dorset from Crystal Palace

He made only six starts and scoring three times, most recently in a 1-0 win at Chelsea in December 2015.

Hughton took him to the Amex last summer, initially on loan, and was repaid with 23 goals as Brighton won promotion.

Murray has yet to score this season after being hit by an ankle injury in his second game, at Leicester, but Hughton kept him out of Tuesday’s Carabao Cup tie at former club Bournemouth to ensure his full fitness for tomorrow’s visit from in-form Newcastle.

“Glenn was wonderful for us last season and his last opportunity to play in the Premier League was at Bournemouth and he probably wouldn’t have played as many games as he would have liked,” said Hughton.

He knows that this is another really good opportunity to be involved at Premier League

“So he knows that this is another really good opportunity to be involved at Premier League level and he is certainly very excited by it.”

Murray has averaged a goal in every two Premier League starts at Palace and Bournemouth, including a run of six in six games for the Eagles between February and April 2015.

“He will know, as we know, that it is more difficult to score goals at Premier League level than in the Championship,” Hughton added.

“But Glenn is one who has always had a knack of being able to do that. It’s of course a different stage that he has an opportunity on now.”
