Arsenal news: Jack Wilshere would be going backwards if he left Gunners - Darius Vassell

JACK WILSHERE would be going backwards in his career if he were to leave Arsenal.

Those are the thoughts of former Aston Villa star Darius Vassell.

Wilshere’s time with the Gunners has been severely disrupted by injuries and he has made just one Premier League start since the 2015/16 season.

He managed to play a full 90 minutes in the 1-0 Carabao Cup win over Doncaster last Wednesday.

After spending last season on loan at Bournemouth, Wilshere faces a battle on his hands to nail down a regular starting spot in Arsene Wenger’s side.

But Vassell thinks it would be a mistake for Wilshere to leave the Gunners at this stage of his career.

“Wilshere when he burst onto the scene, I thought ‘wow what a player he's gonna be for England perhaps captain England’,” Vassell told Express Sport.

“The fact he's seen that other players have surpassed him and he has been involved in England set-up, it has been a shame.

"Should he move on and do other bits and pieces? As a fan, no I want to see him do his bits and pieces at the club he belongs.
