JOSE MOURINHO has hinted Victor Lindelof could start against CSKA Moscow as he admitted the defender needs more “opportunities” at Manchester United.

Victor Lindelof has been used sparingly by Jose Mourinho this season

Victor Lindelof was Jose Mourinho’s first summer signing, joining from Benfica for £30million.

Many expected him tp become United’s first-choice centre-half alongside Eric Bailly due to the hefty price-tag.

But the Sweden international has found first-team football hard to come by this season, with Jose Mourinho keeping in on the bench.

However, the Portuguese has admitted he could be handed an opportunity to impress against CSKA Moscow in the Champions League tomorrow night (7.45pm).

Jose Mourinho has claimed Victor Lindelof needs more opportunities

“Victor will be given time and no pressure for his evolution,” Mourinho said ahead of their game in Russia.

“It’s a very specific position on the pitch. He needs time, he will be given time but also opportunities.

“Just time and no opportunities to play means the evolution gets slower so he needs time, but also opportunities.

“It’s good that he played against Basel and against Burton, he is going to have more opportunities to play and prove how good he is.”

The news will be well received by Sweden boss Janne Andersson who admitted this week he was not happy with Lindelof’s lack of football this term.

"It's a frustrating thing in this job, I cannot influence anything,” he told Swedish radio station P5 Sthlm.

"It is clear that over time, I want all our players to play as much as possible, at as high a level as possible.

"So over time it's a little unfortunate. But we'll see, he has played some matches. We hope that he will be even closer to the team."
