Alvaro Morata has been tipped to outscore Diego Costa

Alvaro Morata arrived at Chelsea with huge expectations on his shoulders following his club-record £60million move from Real Madrid.

And the striker has not disappointed, scoring six goals in the Premier League already, including his first hat-trick against Stoke last weekend.

It is no surprise the 24-year-old is being backed to surpass Diego Costa’s goal tally from last season of 22 goals in all competitions.

And bookmakers BetStars have priced Morata at 5/6 to outscore his fellow Spain international.

“Chelsea’s new leading man Alvaro Morata is priced at 5/6 to score more than 22.5 goals for Chelsea in all competitions this season and beat the recently-departed Diego Costa’s 2016/17 goal tally,” BetStars director Ian Marmion said.

“Costa, who officially joined Atlético Madrid this week, struck 22 goals for The Blues last season.

“Former Real Madrid man Morata has made a blistering start to life under Antonio Conte, netting six goals in his first six games including a hat-trick against Stoke at the weekend.

“It’s the second best start for any Chelsea player in the Premier League and the 24-year-old Spaniard is currently the league’s joint top goalscorer, alongside Sergio Aguero and Romelu Lukaku.”

Morata will be hoping to add to his tally against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League tonight (7.45pm).

And Atletico midfielder Koke admitted he fears the Spain international could score, claiming he has the Midas touch.

“There are many Spanish players at Chelsea and they are scoring goals like my friend Morata,” he said.

“Everything he touches is hitting the back of the net so let’s hope they do not have a good day tomorrow.”
