Diatta is regarded as one of the most exciting young prospects in European football.

He plays his football in the top-tier of Norwegian football with Sarpsborg 08, who are currently second behind Rosenborg in the league table.

The 18-year-old signed a new four year deal at the club at the start of the year with potential suitors registering an interest in the talented teenager.

And United have reportedly been monitoring Diatta’s progress in recent months and sent scouts to watch him in action against Odd on Monday.

However, Sarpsborg sporting director Thomas Berntsen has claimed United were not alone in sending scouts to watch Diatta this season.

"What I can say is that there are many clubs watching Diatta,” Bentsen told Norwegian broadcaster TV2.

"The clubs that are looking at him are clubs with big wallets.

“He will cost a lot of money, without any shadow of doubt.”

But Diatta has previously discussed his hopes of one day moving to one of Europe’s elite leagues.

"I'm young and just have to work hard. It's a dream for me to play to play in the big leagues,” Diatta said.

"But now I'm in Sarpsborg and I love this club. Then we'll see what's going on in the future."
