ATHLETIC MADRID striker Antoine Griezmann suggests he was far from his best as his side fell to a 2-1 Champions League defeat to Chelsea last night.

Michy Batshuayi's goal in the fourth minute of stoppage time saw Chelsea come from behind to beat Atletico Madrid and move top of Group C.

Blues striker Alvaro Morata had earlier cancelled out Griezmann's opener from the penalty spot.

Griezmann feels Chelsea fully deserved the three points, but suggests Atletico could have avoided defeat had he stepped up his game.

“They were the better team in every aspect,” said Griezmann. “There is nothing else to say. We must try and win all our games now.

Maybe we lacked a better game from me

“In the first half they were on top of us, and in the second half they were better [too]. Maybe we lacked a better game from me.”

Atletico manager Diego Simeone agreed with Griezmann that Chelsea were better in every department at the Wanda Metropolitano.

“The opponent was the better team, they were the more comfortable team in all moments, and deserved to win," Simeone said.

"They played a good game in general, they are a very strong and competitive team, showed their status.

“They were better tactically, technically, physically, with intensity. You must congratulate a team who played as Chelsea did today.

“A draw was good for us, they had patience in the last play to move the ball very well and end the game very well for them."
