Chelsea news: Alvaro Morata bullied Diego Godin like I’ve never seen before - Ferdinand

CHELSEA striker Alvaro Morata bullied Diego Godin like no one has ever done before.

Lampard: Morata was class, but Kane's the best

That is the opinion of pundit and former Manchester United captain Rio Ferdinand.

Morata has been on fire since arriving from Real Madrid in the summer.

The Spaniard scored the equaliser in Chelsea’s dramatic late 2-1 Champions League win over Atletico last night.

But it was the way he dealt with centre-back Godin that impressed Ferdinand the most.

“I’ve not seen Godin get bullied and manhandled and dragged about like he did today,” Ferdinand said on BT Sport.

“Godin has been one of the best defenders in the Champions League for the last three or four years.

“Today, he looked like he had aged a few years playing against Morata.

“That’s how good he was today, so testament to his performance.”

Ferdinand’s colleague and former Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard also liked what he saw from Morata.

He says the Chelsea man is the type of striker he would have liked to play with.

“What impressed me the most about him is that he secured everything that came into him today,” Gerrard said.

“When you’re in midfield and playing with that type of player, if your No 9 holds the ball up every time, it’s so, so helpful.”
