Chelsea news: Atletico should have had another penalty at 1-1 - Frank Lampard

ATLETICO MADRID should have had another penalty against Chelsea last night, according to Frank Lampard.

Gerrard praises Chelsea's performance after Atletico Madrid clash

Chelsea beat Atletico 2-1 thanks to goals from Alvaro Morata and a stoppage time winner from Michy Batshuayi.

The hosts initially went ahead from the penalty spot in the first half, with Antoine Griezmann sending Blues goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois the wrong way.

But on 85 minutes, with the score at 1-1, Atletico claimed the referee should have pointed to the spot again, when Tiemoue Bakayoko collided with former Blues striker Fernando Torres in the box.

Appeals were waved away and Chelsea went on to claim a memorable win, but Lampard says the officials got the decision wrong.

Lampard’s colleague and former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand also thought Atletico Madrid should have had a penalty.

“I thought it was a penalty straight away,” Ferdinand said.

“It’s clumsy, it’s careless, he’s not thinking.

“When you’re on the pitch sometimes and you see incidents like that you immediately think ‘what are you thinking?’.”
