Sergio Aguero car crash: Man City statement on injured star; could be out for two months

SERGIO AGUERO has been injured in a car accident after attending a concert in Holland.

The Manchester City striker was attending a concert in Amsterdam featuring Colombian singer Maluma last night.

But the taxi reportedly taking Aguero to the airport to fly back to Manchester was involved in an accident leaving the Argentinian with suspected broken ribs.

And Manchester City have now released a statement on Sergio Aguero, but refused to rule him out of their top-of-the-table clash with Chelsea tomorrow (5.30pm).

City said: “Sergio Aguero will be assessed by club doctors today after being involved in a road accident on Thursday.

“The City forward was in Holland on his day off and has sustained injuries.

“He will return to Manchester this morning and his status will be checked ahead of tomorrow's Premier League clash at Chelsea.

“Mancity.com will bring you all the latest on Sergio as we get more news.”

Early reports at the scene say Aguero was wearing his seat belt which has limited the damage he suffered, with the car looking a write-off.

Pictures have emerged of the alleged incident showing the taxi had careered into a pole.

The car looks badly damaged as a result of the crash, while it seems hugely unlikely that Aguero will feature at Stamford Bridge tomorrow.

Sky Sports News say Dutch police have revealed that two people were injured and taken to hospital, but would not confirm their names.

Aguero posted a picture alongside hit Colombian artist Maluma last night, with the caption “@maluma. Thanks for the invitation !!”

ESPN say Aguero was a passenger in a taxi on route to the airport in Amsterdam after attending Maluma’s concert when the crash happened.

The driver lost control of the vehicle and hit a column on the side of the road.

South American sports journalist Tim Vickery said Aguero was set to catch a flight back to Manchester before the incident occurred.

Vickery added that news of Aguero’s accident was making headlines in his homeland Argentina.

His former club Independiente seemingly confirmed the news with a tweet wishing the 29-year-old a speedy recovery.

It read: “Force and speedy recovery @aguerosergiokun! All @Independiente is with you at this difficult time.”

Early reports suggest Aguero could be out for up to two months which could potentially see him miss three Champions League matches and a crucial Premier League match against Arsenal next month.

Argentina are also involved in two crucial World Cup qualifiers next week against Peru and Ecuador.

Pep Guardiola has already lost Benjamin Mendy to injury, with the left-back potentially out for the season, after it was confirmed he had ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament in the win over Crystal Palace.

Aguero has been a key player in City's brilliant start to the season, scoring seven goals in just eight games.
