Marouane Fellaini scored twice for Manchester United against Crystal Palace

Fellaini scored twice today in the 4-0 win over Crystal Palace.

The players who started in United’s trip to CSKA Moscow in midweek appeared jaded, while Fellaini was keen to get on the ball after returning to the starting XI.

Juan Mata and Romelu Lukaku also got on the scoresheet for United.

But Mourinho was interested in praising his roaming midfielder.

“He plays with me as a defensive midfielder and as a second striker and adapts to the needs of the team,” Mourinho told MUTV.

"He is a great player and character and we have a good relationship.

“A strong character who resists the difficulties here.

“Some people did not recognise his qualities so he has to be a strong character. He is a fighter.”

Fellaini has had his critics over the years since his arrival from Everton in 2013.

He now boasts four goals for the season and Mourinho explained why he trusts the Belgian.

“I am really pleased that I help him reach this level and to change the perception that the fans have now,” he said.

“I am really happy for him.

“Fellaini has important qualities and I try and use his qualities depending on the situations.”
