Sky Sports pundit Stuart Pearce: Liverpool need a striker like Romelu Lukaku

LIVERPOOL do not have a clinical goalscoring striker like their rivals in the Premier League do.

Carragher: Kane or Lukaku could win the Golden Boot award

That is the view of Sky Sports pundit and former England defender Stuart Pearce.

Liverpool have won just one game in their last seven in all competitions, despite dominating large parts of those matches.

Five of those seven have been draws, including the frustrating 1-1 draw with Newcastle yesterday.

Pearce cannot understand why Liverpool, with the talent that they have got, are not finishing teams off.

Sky Sports pundit Pearce says Liverpool don't have a clinical striker like Romelu Lukaku

Liverpool are creating the chances which is a real plus, but they’re failing to hit the back of the net

But he says the lack of a striker like Tottenham’s Harry Kane or Manchester United’s Romelu Lukaku is part of that.

“That would be the thing that he (Jurgen Klopp) and probably I are scratching my head with,” Pearce said.

“When you look at the array of talent they’ve got up front, their strike-force, or combination strike-force, is as good as anything in the league, within reason.

“But they’ve not got an individual at this moment in time who has looked clinical in front of goal, like Harry Kane, Lukaku.

Liverpool news: Sky Sports pundit Pearce cannot understand the Reds' struggles in front of goal

“When you look at other teams in and around them, they’ve got a striker who hits the back of the net, give him one chance and he will score one goal.

Liverpool are creating the chances which is a real plus, but they’re failing to hit the back of the net.”

Lukaku is currently the top scorer in the Premier League with seven goals.

Liverpool's task does not get any easier as they face Lukaku's United next following the international break on Saturday October 14.
