Crystal Palace suffered their seventh straight defeat of the season on Saturday, losing 4-0 to Manchester United at Old Trafford.

The south London club are yet to score a single goal in the Premier League this term and the fixture list is unrelenting with defending champions Chelsea up next.

Roy Hodgson’s side host the Blues on October 14 after the international break.

And the former England boss thinks hard graft is the only way his side will come away with a result and he has urged his players to “run their b****cks off”.

“Christian Benteke won’t be back for a few weeks, so we still won’t have a recognised centre-forward,” Hodgson said.

“Wilf Zaha probably won’t be back and Ruben Loftus-Cheek can’t play [as he is on loan from Chelsea].

“So there are three quality players I can name off the top of my head who could have helped us do a better job against Chelsea.

“But they’re not there, so it’s got to be the lads I put out there who go out and run their b****cks off – if you excuse my expression – to try to do the best job they can possibly do.”

will be formidable opponents for Palace who will be keen to get back to winning ways following their 1-0 defeat to Manchester City.

“For sure there is a disappointment for the result but I think when two great teams play these games anything can happen,” Antonio Conte said.

"We played against a very good team and we created chances but we didn't take them. City took their chance. A great compliment to Manchester City.

“We have to go game by game, to do our best and then I will see at the end of the season where we finish in the league.”
