THIERRY HENRY has claimed Manchester United star Anthony Martial is a much better player than he was at 21.

Anthony Martial joined Manchester United in 2015 from Monaco with huge expectation because of his £36million price-tag.

The Frenchman was a relative unknown but soon earned comparisons to fellow Frenchman Thierry Henry.

The pair had both started their careers with Monaco before kicking on in the Premier League with United and Arsenal respectively.

However, Henry is convinced Martial is much better than he was at the same age and thinks the 21-year-old can become world class.

“Anthony Martial is a far better player than I was at that age,” Henry said while away on international coaching duty with Belgium.

“Martial can be world class.”

Martial had an impressive debut season with United, finishing the club’s top scorer with 18 goals in all competitions.

Following Jose Mourinho’s arrival, the Frenchman’s form dropped off but he has picked up this term as an impact sub for the Red Devils.

He has made nine appearances in this campaign, scoring five goals and providing six assists and Mourinho is delighted with his contribution.

“I see a great improvement in the person, in the mood, in the face, in the body language – if you want just a word, in the happiness,” Mourinho said last month.

“He’s a happy guy, he’s working extremely well. He starts matches, he tries to do well.

“[If] he goes from the bench, even if it is for 10 minutes like in the last match at home, he tries to enjoy and try to give something in these extra minutes.

“I am very pleased with his attitude overall and then it’s easier to play well.”
