Man Utd News: Jose Mourinho at war with Red Devils chiefs over Marouane Fellaini

MANCHESTER UNITED manager Jose Mourinho is at odds with the club over a new deal for Marouane Fellaini, reports say.

Marouane Fellaini elbows Gerard Pique in the face

Fellaini is currently in his fifth season at Manchester United after signing from Everton in the summer of 2013.

The Belgian international has regularly divided fans during his Old Trafford stint, with many adamant he is not good enough to don the famous red and white colours.

However, he is liked by manager Jose Mourinho, with the 54-year-old blocking a move to Turkish side Galatasaray this summer.

There has been talk of a new contract but Spanish outlet Don Balon claims club chiefs are wary of bowing to his huge wage demands.

It is said that the player’s representatives have been locked in talks over a fresh deal with club chiefs for several weeks.

Fellaini supposedly wants a salary of £150,000 a week in order to extend his Old Trafford stay.

But Don Balon say United are reluctant to give him such a lofty wage.

And that could lead to things turning sour between Mourinho and the club’s hierarchy.

With six wins from their first seven Premier League games, life at United is currently rosy.

But Mourinho’s appetite for turbulence could see trouble rear its head again.

Meanwhile, the former Chelsea boss lauded Fellaini after his brace in the Red Devils’ 4-0 win over Crystal Palace on Saturday.

"We are all managers, we are all different, sometimes we like players others don't like, sometimes we don't like players others like, some players perform better with some of us than with others,” he said.

"And I have examples of players that didn't perform well with me and then they performed well with other managers.

"Marouane is just the fact I think he has important qualities and I try to use these qualities depending of the situation, depending of the team's needs.

"He played with me as defensive midfield player, as second striker, he played with me like today in one of the double midfield players, adapted to the needs of the team.

"He's a team player, a great character.

"We have a good relationship and things are going really between us.”
