Rabiot under scrutiny

19.40: Shaka Hislop thinks Adrien Rabiot’s praise of Liverpool shows he is angling for a new PSG deal.

“I have an idea as to what prompted this comment from Rabiot,” Hislop said.

“He’s 22-years-old, playing at PSG, he’s started every game this season.

“It just so happens he’s got two years left to run on his contract. I see absolutely no reason for him wanting to leave PSG right now.

“But as I just mentioned, two years left on his contract, about the time clubs start talking to players about new deals, and he comes out with this comment.

“Call me a cynic but this is clearly aimed at prompting those negotiations and upping his own price.”

Coutinho and Firmino doubts for United game

17:15: Liverpool could face Manchester United without star duo Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino after the international break.

Liverpool host Manchester United at Anfield on Saturday October 14 - just two days after Coutinho and Firmino arrive back from Brazil duty.

And The Metro claim Liverpool could be without the Brazilian duo against United as they may struggle to be 100 per cent fit.

Both Coutinho and Firmino are expected to face Chile in Brazil’s final World Cup qualifier, which finishes in the early hours of Wednesday morning in Sao Paulo.

The pair will then return back to England in a private jet immediately after the game.

Ox shouldn't be in squad - Merson

15.25: Liverpool star Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain should not be in the current England squad, according to Paul Merson.

Merson was angry the 24-year-old was picked because he is not playing regularly for Liverpool.

“If you don’t play for your club, you don’t play for England. It’s as simple as that,” he said on Sky Sports.

“I played in an era where Paul Gascoigne played, one of the best England players you’ll ever see.

“If he wasn’t playing for his club, he had no chance of playing for England. That’s the way it worked.”

Salah, Mane so good

14.50: Liverpool stars Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah are so good because of how similar they link-up with striker Roberto Firmino, according to Danny Higgoinbotham.

The pundit believes the style of play of the star duo suit the way Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp likes to utilise Firmino through the middle.

“What you’ve got is you’ve got two wide players in that front three that play very inverted,” Higginbotham said on Sky Sports.

“They like to come and join in with Firmino and it’s all about the movement.

“It’s about passing the ball but then moving again and then moving again, not admiring the pass. That’s what they’re doing and they do it very well.”

Firmino should produce more

12.05: Liverpool star Roberto Firmino should be producing more than he has been this season, according to Sky Sports pundit Danny Higginbotham.

Higginbotham says Firmino’s form in front of goal is parallel with Liverpool’s recent poor run.

“I think so, yeah definitely (we expect more from Firmino),” Higginbotham said.

“The type of player he is he will be expecting more from himself as well, I don’t think there’s any question about that.

Liverpool to unveil stand

11:13: Liverpool will officially unveil the newly-named Kenny Dalglish Stand at the home match against Manchester United on October 14.

Work on branding and installation of illuminated signage and exterior graphics to the front and inside of what was formerly known as the Centenary Stand, began this week.

A special mosaic will be revealed across the Kenny Dalglish Stand and the Kop ahead of kick-off and the match-day programme will feature a cover dedicated to the former player and manager.

Ex-star Kolo Toure gets new job

10:35: Kolo Toure has been appointed as an assistant coach to the Ivory Coast national team.

The former Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City defender will work under ex-Belgium coach Marc Wilmots, the Ivorian Football Federation (FIF) has announced.

The posting comes soon after the 36-year-old, who hung up his boots in the summer, took up a role on the backroom staff of his last club Celtic.

Ivory Coast, with whom Toure won the African Nations Cup as a player in 2015, face Mali in their next World Cup qualifier on Friday.

A statement from the FIF read: "He will take on the role of coach Marc Wilmots' assistant from the Mali-Cote d'Ivoire match of October 6, 2017."

Gerrard calls for calm

09:00 Former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard insists there is no need to panic about the club's recent struggles.

One win in seven matches in all competitions has seen criticism of Jurgen Klopp's side grow but Gerrard, now under-18s manager, insists there is no cause for concern with the club just two points off the top four and still unbeaten in the Champions League.

"We're seven games into a Premier League campaign - there's no time to panic," he told liverpoolfc.com.

"We've got a wonderful manager and coaching staff that are looking after these players.

"I think everything is fine. I'm not one that jumps on the bandwagon and listens to criticism after seven games.”
