Man Utd News: Juventus slammed for Paul Pogba transfer by Napoli chief

JUVENTUS have been slammed for selling Paul Pogba to Manchester United last year by Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis.

Manchester United lost Pogba to Juventus back in 2012 after the midfielder had grown fed up with life in the reserves under Sir Alex Ferguson.

However, four years on from his controversial departure, United shelled out a huge £89million to bring him back to Old Trafford.

Pogba was criticised for underperforming last term, despite the club winning the Community Shield, EFL Cup and Europa League in Jose Mourinho’s first season in charge.

And Napoli chief De Laurentiis has slammed Juventus for letting Paul Pogba go, as well as Leonardo Bonucci, who was sold to AC Milan in July.

"I see a Juventus that's more nervous and worried," he told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

"They have lost important players in recent years.

"Giorgio Chiellini is still there, but Bonucci went to Milan: he was crucial.

“Andrea Pirlo wasn't replaced and I would've kept Pogba her for the rest of my life."

Napoli have won all seven of their Serie A games so far, scoring 25 goals.

And film producer De Laurentiis is happy with their form and piled praise on manager Maurizio Sarri.

“I’m not surprised, but I’m not getting carried away either,” he added.

“I still think we’ll only know the truth at the end of March.

Man Utd News: Juventus also lost Leonardo Bonucci to AC Milan

"I wanted him, and took criticism of from the fans for it. I had fallen in love with him then but even more so now.

“He has a great advantage and a great gift: he is no fool, he is a multifaceted man. He is prepared and you can talk to him about so many things.

"I hope he stays with us for at least another 10 years."

Should Napoli hold on to win the title, it will be their first league triumph since 1990.

They have finished second three times since then, in 2011, 2014 and 2017.
