Matteo Darmian refuses to rule out future return to Italy

Darmian joined Manchester United in the summer of 2015 for £13million and was a regular under Louis van Gaal in his maiden season at Old Trafford.

But the Italy international has become a bit-part player under Jose Mourinho, starting just 16 Premier League games since the start of last season.

The 27-year-old admits he has no regrets over his Old Trafford switch, but has refused to rule out a return to Italy at some point in the future.

"I don't regret the decision I took. I would make the same decision over and over again,” said Darmian, who has won the Europa League, EFL Cup and FA Cup with United.

If there is an opportunity to return, I'll make evaluations

"Obviously like every footballer I would like to be playing as much as possible.

“But I am working hard, putting in the effort and trying to make the manager's decisions difficult, and I'll continue to do that.

"I won't deny that I always watch Italian football and I don't know what will happen in the future.

“If there is an opportunity to return, then I'll make the necessary evaluations."

Darmian has been used as a makeshift left-back under Mourinho, with Antonio Valencia favoured in his natural right-back position.
