Chelsea exclusive: I’m surprised Conte risked Morata injury against Man City - Le Saux

CHELSEA legend Graeme Le Saux believes Alvaro Morata went up against Manchester City with more than just a knock.

Alvaro Morata was forced off against Atletico Madrid and Manchester City due to injury

Morata was a doubt for the Manchester City game after injury forced him off in the Champions League win over Atletico Madrid three days earlier.

But the £60million signing, who was deemed fit enough to start against City, was again substituted prematurely in the 1-0 defeat with a hamstring complaint.

And former Blues defender Le Saux has suggested Morata should have missed the City game as the injury he picked up against Atletico looked worse than just a knock.

Betfair ambassador Le Saux said: “I noticed in the game against Atletico Madrid that when he pulled up it looked very much like a muscle injury rather than a knock.

“So when it came to the City match I kept a close eye on him during commentary.

“What he brought to Chelsea on Saturday is exactly why they’ll miss him.

“He stretched the City back four and his movement forced them far deeper than Pep Guardiola would’ve liked.

“And I do think that if Morata had stayed on the pitch, it quite easily could’ve finished as a draw against Manchester City.”

Morata was forced to withdraw from the Spain squad for the international break and could be out for around two months.
