Liverpool's Andy Robertson injured his wrist playing for Scotland on Thursday

The Liverpool left-back hurt his wrist during Thursday’s win over Slovakia.

National boss Gordon Strachan feared he had broken it but Robertson has been given the all-clear to travel to Slovenia on Saturday.

The 23-year-old is adamant it would have taken something serious to rule him out of tomorrow’s clash in Ljubljana.

A win could see Scotland land second place in Group F behind England.

He said: “I will be okay. I will put a wrist protector on or I will just strap it up, but I should be alright for Sunday.

“I landed on my arm and then I couldn’t really feel anything so I was worried a bone might be broken, but the doc seems quite happy with things and he doesn’t think there is anything broken.”

Robertson has urged the whole of Scotland to stand behind the team.

“We have done everything we can and now we are right in the mix,” he said.

“If we can perform like we have in the last couple of games it will get us through.

“It will be heart-in-mouth stuff but the whole nation will be behind us.”

Meanwhile, Kieran Tierney reckons Scotland’s late winner against Slovakia shows Strachan was right to substitute him at Hampden Park.

The Celtic defender, playing at right-back, was replaced by Ikechi Anya eight minutes from time and the tricky winger went on to deliver the cross that led to Martin Skrtel’s own-goal.

Tierney, who is sure to be a starter in tomorrow’s showdown with Slovenia, was delighted his replacement had such a huge impact in the game.

He said: “The manager brought on Kech to be the more attacking player wide on the right.

“What a change it was. The manager has called it spot-on as Kech put a great ball into a dangerous area and we got the winner.

“The momentum we have in the squad just now and the team spirit is great. We are looking forward to the Slovenia game now.”

After his match-winning contribution, Anya believes it would be “an incredible achievement” if Scotland were to grab a World Cup play-off place.

The national team looked down and out after a 3-0 thrashing by England at Wembley in November, but a run of four wins and a draw has seen them get to within touching distance of second spot in Group F.

And Anya claims boss Strachan deserves all the credit for their spectacular turnaround.

“The players can’t say enough good words about the gaffer. He’s one of the best guys I’ve ever worked with in football,” said the Derby winger.

“The manager’s got great experience as player, coach and manager.

“You could see with the substitutions against Slovakia that he was aware of what the team needed. All of the subs managed to have a good impact. The gaffer deserves all the credit that’s come his way.

“The momentum has been building in the squad and if we can get to these play-offs then it will be an incredible achievement, especially considering the start we had.

“But nothing’s done yet. All we’ve done is put ourselves in a good position.”

Thursday’s victory was won off the back of another  solid defensive display and Christophe Berra is delighted Scotland’s back-line is earning praise.

The Hearts skipper said: “We are dangerous going forward and it was good to keep another clean sheet.

“That was our third in a row and the first time that’s happened for a few years for Scotland – in a competitive sense anyway. It has given us something to build on.

“You saw what it meant to the players and the fans at the end against Slovakia. Hopefully we can now see it through in Slovenia.”
