Which footballers have agreed to donate 1% of their salary to Juan Mata's Common Goal charity?

Not a single Premier League player has joined Mata in pledging 1% of their salary to his Common Goal charity.

The midfielder set up the foundation with the aim of helping underprivileged children around the world, but the 29-year-old is struggling to find support among his colleagues.

Mata has pledged 1% of his annual salary – worth more than £70,000 – to the charity and has encouraged fellow professionals to do the same.

However only five other footballers have officially committed to the idea, while another Premier League star – non-English and not a United team-mate – has also vowed to chip in.

The average yearly salary of a Premier League player stands at £2,450,201, suggesting most of the players should have some loose change on hand to donate.

While many footballers already run their own foundations and make regular contributions to good causes, Mata must be bitterly disappointed his grand idea has not taken hold.
