Man Utd news: Marcus Rashford set for bumper pay rise after meteoric rise

MARCUS RASHFORD is set to be rewarded with a new contract ahead of his 20th birthday, according to reports.

Ferdinand: Comparing Rashford to Michael Owen is disrespectful

Rashford has been in excellent form for United this season so far, scoring five goals and providing four assists in 11 games.

He only made his professional debut 18 months ago when he bagged a brace to help United to a 3-2 win over rivals Arsenal.

And it has been a whirlwind year-and-a-half for the teenager.

He has since gone on to represent his country at the European Championships, lifted three trophies including the EFL Cup and Europa League last year and has already been touted to have a big role for England in the coming years.

At 19 years old, Rashford is still on the lower end of the pay scale at Old Trafford on £50,000-a-week.

But The Sun on Sunday claim the young forward will be offered a new lucrative contract instead of the many bonuses in his current deal.

Jose Mourinho has been mightily impressed with Rashford’s displays this season.

And while his attacking flair has left a lasting impression on the United boss, it was his defensive work in the win over Southampton last month that led to Mourinho labelling Rashford as “phenomenal”.

“Marcus was phenomenal,” Mourinho said. “Marcus felt what everybody else felt, if we don’t concede we win three points so let’s fight hard not to.”

Rashford could be given a rest by England for their match against Lithuania (5pm) with World Cup qualification now secured and United facing a tough away test at Liverpool at the weekend.
