Manchester United's Marouane Fellaini injured his knee playing for Belgium

Fellaini was subbed off 29 minutes into Belgium’s 4-3 win over Bosnia.

There were initial fears that he had suffered a serious knee injury, with Belgium manager Roberto Martinez unsure of the extent of the damage.

But Belgium have now confirmed Fellaini will be out for a couple of weeks after having a scan this morning.

The news will come as a relief for United manager Jose Mourinho, who is already without midfielder Paul Pogba.

Fellaini has impressed during his stint in central midfield this season and scored twice in the 4-0 win over Crystal Palace before the international break.

Discussing his player yesterday, Martinez said: ”We are all worried about Fellaini. We fear that there's ligament damage."

Should he be out for two weeks he will miss next weekend’s Premier League trip to Liverpool.

Fellaini could also be ruled out of a Champions League away clash at Benfica, before United travel to Huddersfield Town the following Saturday.

United’s forgotten man Ander Herrera may therefore fill in for Fellaini for the three away games.

Herrera has dropped down Mourinho’s pecking order in recent weeks but could get a run out now.

Belgium have already qualified for the World Cup next summer and will play a dead rubber against Cyprus on Tuesday.

Fellaini’s United team-mate Romelu Lukaku was rested for the Bosnia game due to an ankle injury.

It is not known if he will get a game at home to Cyprus.
