Peter Crouch has scored more headed goals than any other Premier League player

The towering 6ft 6in striker has racked up 53 headed goals in the Premier League - surpassing ex-Newcastle United forward Alan Shearer’s record of 46.

Stoke ace Crouch has three goals already to his name this season, including a vital winner against his former side Southampton.

And the 36-year-old was delighted with his accomplishment, telling Guinness World Records: “It feels good.

“To hold any record, certainly in the Premier League, is great. I’m very proud of it.”

Target men-type forwards are rarely seen in modern football, but after netting 196 goals in 491 games, he is proof that old school strikers still work.

"I see centre forwards hanging around outside the box and it blows my mind,” he added. “I just can’t get my head around it.

“I believe if you are a centre forward, you should be in the box, ready for the ball. That’s the way I have always played my game and that will never change.”

But with Crouch coming to the tail-end of his career and with little time to add to his record, who does he think could be the first to try and knock him off his perch?

“I think there’s only Andy Carroll who will stay around and score the type of goals that I do. Andy is very good in the air,” he said.

“Other than that there’s not many in the Premier League that play the way we do.”

Crouch also made 42 appearances for England over a five-year spell, where he also introduced his robot celebration on the world stage, but he feels his spell with the national side was too short.

“I believe it ended too soon, but that’s football, it’s a game of opinions,” Crouch said.

“I had a great run, I loved it. I was part of every squad for five years in a period where I think we had our best team since ’66 and really should have won something.”
