Man Utd news: Jose Mourinho doesn't need Paul Pogba or Marouane Fellaini to beat Liverpool

MAROUANE FELLAINI used to be a bit of a parody at Manchester United.

Daley Blind is sad that Paul Pogba is injured

Much-maligned by the fans and clumsy on the pitch, he couldn’t do right for wrong.

But fast forward a few years and things have changed. The Belgian has transformed himself and he looks comfortable in a United shirt - a far cry from the player David Moyes splashed out £27.5million on deadline day of the summer transfer window in 2013.

Fellaini has been filling in for the past few matches for , who tore his hamstring in the 3-0 Champions League win over Basel last month.

Now Fellaini will miss the trip to Liverpool this week after straining his knee ligaments during Belgium’s 4-3 World Cup qualifying win over Bosnia over the week.

This comes at a bad time for United, who have an action-packed month as they play six times in 17 days across three different competitions.

But is it really bad news for United this weekend?

Yes of course, not having Pogba and Fellaini means they will be missing a little bit of dynamism and cutting edge in midfield.

However, Ander Herrera has quality even though he hasn't been able to hold down a regular spot in the starting XI.

And let’s not forget they have Nemanja Matic too, who is brilliant at breaking up play and acting as a buffer for protecting the defence.

Mourinho last season adopted some negative tactics as Liverpool and United cancelled each other out in a drab goalless draw last season at Anfield.

The Portuguese tactician has a wealth of attacking arsenal at his disposal.

Jose Mourinho will no doubt feel he has enough to beat Manchester United

Marcus Rashford has bags of pace which will no doubt send a shiver down the spine of Liverpool’s back four.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Juan Mata know how to play that defence-splitting pass and with Romelu Lukaku, United have one of the most in-form strikers in England’s top flight.

Liverpool’s defence has been nothing short of a shambles so far this term.

Yes, the ‘Fab Four’ of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah and Philippe Coutinho have shown their class, they are leaking too many goals at the other end.

At this moment in time, Jurgen Klopp’s side are a work in progress.

United of course, will be desperate to keep their unbeaten record in tact, and while Liverpool could pose a threat, Mourinho’s men shouldn’t fret too much about not having Pogba and Fellaini available.
