City eye Faouzi Ghoulam hijack

14:30: Manchester City are interested in bringing Napoli player Faouzi Ghoulam to the Ethiad Stadium in the new year, The Sun claims.

Pep Guardiola is reportedly willing to look into a £3million deal for the 26-year-old, who will be out of contract next summer.

The reports come after full-back Benjamin Mendy suffered a nasty knee injury, ruling him out of the squad in the long term.

Premier League rivals Chelsea and Liverpool have both been linked with Ghoulam, but it appears City are no favourites for his signature.

N’Golo Kante’s bizarre qualification

13:45: Chelsea midfield maestro N’Golo Kante has revealed he’s also a qualified accountant.

Kante helped the Foxes to the title in the 2015/16 campaign and again with Chelsea last season following his £32million switch, but the France international admits there’s more to him than controlling Chelsea’s midfield.

He's also a qualified accountant, a profession he had as a back-up plan had his career taken a difference path.

"When I was 18, I got my baccalaureate [the French A-Level equivalent] and after that I did two more years of study in accountancy," Kante told Chelsea magazine.

"At this time, I was at Boulogne, in the second team – the sixth, then the fifth division. I wasn’t professional, so I kept studying because I wasn’t sure if I would be able to make a living as a footballer.”

Brazil thinks Conte WILL leave

13:00: Quite a few different opinions on the future of Antonio Conte…

TalkSPORT presenter and former Tottenham striker Alan Brazil thinks the Italian will leave Stamford Bridge.

“Yeah I do (think he will leave to go back to Italy), I do. I have a feeling he’s come here, he’s conquered,” the Scot said.

“I have a feeling he’s come here, he’s conquered. This year’s going to be harder with Manchester United and Manchester City.

“Yeah, without a doubt he’ll try to win the Champions League this season. Then I think he will go, I think this will be his last year.”

Ballon d'Or nominees: 10 huge omissions from shortlist

12:00: Alexis Sanchez is one of several big names who have been omitted from the 30-man Ballon d’Or shortlist.

Arsenal frontman Sanchez scored 30 goals in all competitions last season, but his efforts were not enough to make France Football’s elite shortlist.

The annual award sees players from around Europe recognised for their footballing achievements over the past 12 months, but there are several glaring omissions ahead of this year’s vote.

Tottenham playmaker Christian Eriksen has also missed out despite bagging 23 assists in a superb campaign.

Ranieri: Antonio Conte will stay

11:15: Claudio Ranieri is confident Antonio Conte will remain at Chelsea beyond this season.

Express Sport understands Italy want Conte to takeover from Gian Piero Ventura after next year’s World Cup in Russia.

Conte himself has already discussed his desire to return to his native Italy sooner rather than later.

But Ranieri, who’s now manager of Ligue 1 outfit Nantes, doesn’t think Conte is as homesick as people say.

He told Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport: “The Premier League remains the top, and I’m not convinced by Conte’s homesickness.

“Maybe he was expecting a different transfer campaign, but for a few years now Roman Abramovich hasn’t been doing crazy spending.

“Manchester United and Manchester City have made great signings, so I imagine it’s more draining for Antonio to be fighting on two fronts with the same players.”

Mourinho to battle Chelsea for Rose

10:30: Manchester United are reportedly set to return for Tottenham full-back Danny Rose in January.

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho was said to be keen on bringing in a new left-back during the summer as he still has reservations over Luke Shaw.

Tottenham’s Rose was high up on Mourinho’s shortlist, but Spurs resisted and kept hold of the England international.

However, according to transfer outlet TuttoMercatoWeb, United are expected to renew their interest in the 27-year-old when the window reopens in January.

Mourinho has mostly relied on utility man Daley Blind and right-back Matteo Darmian on the left-side of defence so far this season, with Shaw recovering from a foot injury.

TuttoMercatoWeb add that Premier League champions Chelsea are also interested in signing Rose in the winter window.

Schalke players expect Goretzka to leave

09:30: Leon Goretzka’s Schalke colleagues have already accepted that he will leave the club, but they aren’t exactly sure when.

The German talent has attracted interest from virtually every European heavyweight after numerous dazzling displays in the Bundesliga.

Premier League quartet Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United have all been credited with interest in the 22-year-old, who netted a brilliant backheel against Azerbaijan on Sunday.

Schalke captain Ralf Fahrmann spoke about the midfielder, and conceded that he will probably leave the club.

He said: “I'd like him to stay here for a long time. But you also have to be honest. A man with his qualities is difficult to keep in the long run. In the long run, he will land at one of the top clubs. The only question is when?"

German newspaper Bild claim there are a number of clauses in Goretzka's contract that mean Schalke are unlikely to sell in January.

Musonda’s cryptic post

07:45: Winger Charly Musonda has posted a cryptic Instagram message appearing to show anger towards Chelsea.

Musonda, 20, has made just one first-team appearance for Chelsea since joining their youth system in 2012.

And the former Anderlecht prospect is clearly frustrated with a lack of opportunities.

He wrote alongside a picture of a black screen: “You sacrifice, you work hard, harder, you give more than what's expected, and often more than you can, because you love what you do and clearly more than you should.

“And what do you get back? Literally nothing... done.

“However, with this being said I will continue with same dedication and commitment to this great game.”

Conte EXCLUSIVE

07:30: Antonio Conte is weighing up quitting Premier League champions Chelsea at the end of the season and returning home to Italy.

Conte who led the Blues to the Premier League crown in his first season in charge of Stamford Bridge is known to be missing his homeland.

While their have been deep divisions with Blues top brass about what he feels was a lack of support in the transfer market last summer.

The club missed out on a series of Conte’s transfer targets and it could end up see them changing manager for the 15th time since Claudio Ranieri left the club in May 2004.

Conte came close to leaving the club just weeks after winning the Premier League title and the only thing that stopped him was a sharp financial penalty.

The former Italy boss is only under contract to the Blues until 2019 and has already refused to extend it any further.

He won’t have any problems finding another job in his homeland with both AC Milan and Inter Milan who wanted him back in the summer already mentioned as probable destinations.

Kante sidelined

07:00: N’Golo Kante has returned to Chelsea after picking up a leg injury on international duty with France.

Kante featured in France’s World Cup qualifier against Bulgaria on Saturday but was taken off after just 34 minutes when he clutched his hamstring.

The reigning Premier League champions are hopeful he could return for the Champions League fixture against Roma a week on Wednesday.

However, Kante looks set for a longer spell on the sidelines with Goal claiming he is likely to be out of action for three weeks.

That would mean the 26-year-old would miss Premier League matches against Palace, Watford and Bournemouth as well as a Champions League match against Roma and their last-16 Carabao Cup tie against Everton.
