Philippe Coutinho is still on Barcelona's radar despite missing out in the summer

Liverpool rejected three bids from Barcelona in the summer for their midfield magician, the last of which valued the player at £119m.

But now Don Balon are suggesting that Barcelona striker Luis Suarez is trying to twist the player’s arm into wrangling a move in 2018.

“[Suarez] is trying to make him (Coutinho) see that the sporting proposal of the club is much more interesting than the one in Paris,” Don Balon claim.

Coutinho’s desire to leave Anfield was widely reported this summer, in a long-running saga which saw him hand in a transfer request.

Barcelona profiled him as a future replacement for Andres Iniesta, but instead splashed £135.5m on Ousmane Dembele to replace Neymar.

But now PSG, who spent over £350m in the summer on the young talents of Neymar Jr and Kylian Mbappe, are said to be after Coutinho’s signature.

Spanish agency Sport reported that PSG are willing to “start a new war” with Barcelona for the Brazilian.

However, because of Financial Fair Play regulations, PSG will not be able to purchase the dear midfielder in January, as they seek to balance the books.

It is believed Barcelona may dive in again in the winter window to secure the playmaker’s services, but Liverpool are expected to maintain their ‘not for sale’ angle.

Suarez and Coutinho shared one-and-a-half seasons together at Anfield, as Liverpool came desperately close to winning their first Premier League title in 2013/14.

The Uruguayan left for Barcelona a couple months later for £75m, after he had similar circumstances to the ones Coutinho currently finds himself in.

Former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard convinced Suarez to stay in the summer of 2013, and the striker signed a five-year deal that December.

Despite vowing to remain on Merseyside “for a very long time”, Suarez left the following summer.

Coutinho will return from international duty for Liverpool this week, as he prepares to face Manchester United on Saturday.
