Liverpool news: Jurgen Klopp could be in line for the Bayern Munich job

Bayern last week appointed former coach Jupp Heynckes as their manager until the end of the season following Carlo Ancelotti's sacking.

Heynckes has coached Bayern three times before - most recently in 2013 - and has penned a stop-gap deal before the club eye a long-term replacement in the summer.

And German football expert Price, who has written two books on the Bundesliga including a biography on Klopp, thinks they will now align their sights on Anfield with fans becoming increasingly frustrated.

That's despite Hoffenheim's 30-year-old chief Julian Nagelsmann, considered one of the best young bosses in world football, being the frontrunner for the job.

Price told Express Sport: "Jurgen Klopp’s continued defensive struggles at Liverpool has put Bayern Munich on red alert, as an alternative to Julian Nagelsmann for their long-term managerial role.

"By hiring Jupp Heynckes, Bayern have plugged the gap until the summer – when Nagelsmann is their top target.

"However, Nagelsmann’s reluctance to move earlier has slightly miffed some at the club, and the growing criticism of Klopp by some sections of the Anfield support has meant that he could be considered an alternative.

"There are several hurdles to that move – not least Klopp’s outspoken criticism of the Munich club previously – but he has the star power to convince them to forgive that, and the club offer Klopp a better chance to win things.

"It would be a surprise switch, but it’s not the first time Bayern have landed a controversial target, particularly with Dortmund roots."

Liverpool midfielder Emre Can was yesterday asked whether he could join Klopp at Bayern Munich.

He replied: “You never know what will happen. And I don’t what Jurgen Klopp plans.”
