Arsenal vs Liverpool: Premier League rule out 4pm Christmas Eve clash

THE Premier League have ruled out Arsenal vs Liverpool taking place at 4pm on Christmas Eve.

Arsenal are scheduled to host Liverpool on December 23 but Sky are understood to want to move the game to a day later.

Supporters groups from both clubs argued that rescheduling the match would cause major disruption so close to Christmas while the Football Supporters’ Federation (FSF) described the plan as "a new low".

There is also understood to be concerns about the availability of stewards for the match.

The last Premier League fixture to take place on Christmas Eve was 22 years ago when Leeds hosted Manchester United.

But Premier League CEO Richard Scudamore has told the FSF that no matches on December 24 will kick-off at 4pm.

A FSF statement read: “Premier League CEO Richard Scudamore commits to no 4pm KO on Xmas Eve following this morning’s FSF Fans Group meeting.

“December PL TV picks will be announced October 19 but Xmas Eve games and beyond take another week to confirm.”

However, an earlier time for the match could still be arranged.

As it stands Arsenal and Liverpool are both scheduled to play on Boxing Day.

Fans now face an anxious wait for Sky to announce which matches will be televised over the festive period.
