Liverpool News: Man Utd hero Pallister recalls Beckham and Neville humiliation

LIVERPOOL fans ripped up the autographs of Manchester United legends David Beckham and Gary Neville in front of their faces during a match at Anfield, according to Gary Pallister.

Hutchison: How Liverpool can beat Man Utd in Premier League

Manchester United travel to Liverpool on Saturday aiming to stick the knife into Jurgen Klopp’s faltering side.

The Reds have won just one of their last seven games across all competitions - a 2-1 victory over Leicester last month.

Pressure is mounting on Klopp and, with Jose Mourinho’s free-scoring United set to strut into town, only a victory can relieve some of the doom and gloom mood.

And United legend Pallister, who played in some memorable encounters between the two teams during his playing career, has recalled a time where Liverpool fans destroyed Neville and Beckham’s autographs.

“The funniest thing that I remember was being there when it was Becks and Gary Neville’s first game at Anfield and two little Scouser lads went over, they must’ve been 6 or 7 years old, and they asked for their autograph,” he told Betsafe

“Neville and Becks were quite chuffed to have been asked and then the lads ripped it up in front of them and I walked past and said, ‘Welcome to Anfield son’. That stands out in my memory.”

Pallister also thinks United are a bigger club than their Merseyside rivals.

“I would have to say Manchester United,” he added.

“Revenue tells you that they are probably the biggest club in the world, recent history shows that they have been the better side.

“United are ticking all of the boxes, it took a long time for them to emulate and get past Liverpool and Sir Alex Ferguson managed to do that during his time.

“When he came to the club, we were around 10 titles behind them and now we are ahead of them.

“Obviously, we have got the European things to deal with, they have more than us but that is all part of the rivalry.

“The two most successful teams in England going head to head and a game that I always look for on the fixture list even when City were in and out of the Premiership, it was always the Liverpool for the players and I think it still is.”
