Rob Kraft previously held talks about buying Liverpool in 2005

Kraft, who is the current owner of NFL side New England Patriots and New England Revolution, previously held talks over buying Liverpool.

Former Liverpool chief executive Rick Parry met with Kraft in the United States in 2005 before George Gillet and Tom Hicks completed a takeover in 2007.

But Kraft admits he still likes the idea of owning a Premier League club - although he has some reservations.

"I like to win at whatever I do," he told BBC Sport.

"But without a salary cap I'm concerned that we might be at a disadvantage.

Let's say people from all over the world come in and buy teams and maybe they have different reasons for doing it and managing it. And you have to compete with that and I'm not sure. But I'm still intrigued

“We helped found MLS in America. Our league here is starting to really develop, and with our soccer team we've gone to the championship game five times in 21 years.

"I'm just concerned in the Premier League that we might not, with all the different ways of operating, we're not as familiar with all of them.

Should Kraft reignite his interest in the Reds, he will have to go some way to convincing owners Fenway Sports Group to sell.

FSG currently have no plans to put the club on the marker and have rejected any interest from the Middle East in the past.

Liverpool are currently valued at around £1billion.
