The Belgian as has been in unstoppable form since making the £75million transfer from Everton in the summer, scoring 16 goals in 13 games.

Lukaku is expected to lead the line against Jurgen Klopp’s side tomorrow and Redknapp expects him to continue his goalscoring exploits against a “poor” and “unsettled” Liverpool defence.

The former Reds midfielder has criticised the club’s inability to bring in a world class striker or defender in the summer transfer window.

Liverpool missed out on signing Southampton’s Virgil van Dijk - another mistake Redknapp feels is costly.

Unfortunately, when you don't get that player it unsettles the rest of the defence. They have defended poorly.

Jamie Redknapp on Liverpool's defensive issues

"It's been OK,” Redknapp said of Liverpool’s season.

“It hasn't been great because of all the frailties and all the problems we knew would be there.

“For instance, the defending isn't good enough. That's why he wanted to buy a centre-back for £60million.

"Unfortunately, when you don't get that player it unsettles the rest of the defence. They have defended poorly.

Redknapp believes Liverpool should have tried to sign Manchester United's Romelu Lukaku

"And they haven't really got that out-and-out goalscorer. Daniel Sturridge isn't in the form that he'd like to be.

"You need someone that's going to be like Lukaku or Kane that's going to get you 25 goals a season. They haven't really got that player at the moment."

But Redknapp was not pointing the finger of blame solely at manager Klopp, as he believes the players should also take responsibility for a run of only one win in seven games.

"I honestly think it's a bit of both,” Redknapp added. “But the personnel isn't good enough.

"People talk about the full-backs pushing on too much, exposing the centre-backs, but if you look at Manchester City, their full-backs push on but their centre-backs don't get as exposed as what Liverpool's do.

"I don't think we've got that defensive-minded midfield player either, like Fernandinho, that they've got at Manchester City.

“It's a mixture of things but there's no doubt at all the personnel isn't good enough."
