Mourinho on Liverpool atmosphere: 'It MOTIVATES us'

The Premier League returns with a bang this afternoon when Liverpool and United reignite their fierce rivalry at Anfield.

But neither side will be at full strength with Liverpool being dealt a huge blow this week following the news Sadio Mane would be out for up to six weeks to join Adam Lallana and Nathaniel Clyne on the injury table.

United also got some bad news with Marouane Fellaini picking up a knock on international duty.

The big Belgian has played a key part in United’s recent success in the absence of Paul Pogba.

But former Premier League star Savage believes Mourinho has invested far more wisely than his opposite number to handle losing key players to injury.

“When Klopp has his best team out, Liverpool can beat anyone – especially at Anfield, where they have conceded only one goal, against Burnley, in the Premier League so far,” Savage told The Mirror.

“And if Sadio Mane, Adam Lallana and Nathaniel Clyne were all fit, I would have fancied them to inflict United’s first defeat of the campaign.

Jurgen Klopp hasn't invested enough like Jose Mourinho, according to Robbie Savage

“Where Klopp went out and spent £35million on Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who has been struggling, United spent £70m on a centre forward who has scored 11 goals in 10 games.

“Such is the depth of Mourinho’s squad now that, even with Paul Pogba and Marouane Fellaini out, he can bring in Ander Herrera – probably United’s best player last season.

“If United’s front three of Romelu Lukaku, Marcus Rashford and Henrikh Mkhitaryan needs a reshuffle or reinforcements, Mourinho can turn to Anthony Martial, Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard – but for Liverpool, the loss of Mane through injury for six weeks will be a hammerblow.”
