Manchester United have shocked fans with their line-up for this afternoon's showdown at Anfield.

Fans on Twitter have been left appalled at the absences of Rashford and Bailly.

The duo have enjoyed stellar starts to the new campaign, helping United take the Premier League by storm.

But the club have expained why they are not in Jose Mourinho's starting line-up on social media.

"Eric Bailly sustained an injury while on international duty, and Marcus Rashford picked up a knock with England," Manchester United confirmed on Twitter.

Rashford played in both of England's games during the recent international break.

And the 19-year-old has now consequently been replaced by Ashley Young.

However, with every cloud comes a silver lining.

Anthony Martial will finally get a chance to prove his worth on the left wing.

Liverpool vs Manchester United: Marcus Rashford and Eric Bailly picked up knocks

The France international has been in devastating form so far this season, scoring five goals and weighing in with six assists.

Bailly, meanwhile, has been replaced by Chris Smalling at the back.

United are aiming for a third win at Anfield in four years.

And fans in general will be hoping for a better spectacle than the goalless draw played out a year ago.
