Man Utd News: Phil Jones thinks Jose Mourinho got tactics right in Liverpool draw

PHIL JONES thinks Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho chose the right tactics for their goalless draw with Liverpool on Saturday.

Mourinho: Liverpool's midfield was stronger than Man United's

Manchester United dropped points for just the second time this season against fierce rivals Liverpool at the weekend.

The Red Devils’ swashbuckling style of football had to give way to a far more cautious display.

Manchester United threatened just once - a shot by Romelu Lukaku - with Mourinho deploying his famous ‘park the bus’ tactics to ensure his side remain unbeaten.

And Jones, who starred at the back alongside Chris Smalling, has hit back at those criticising Mourinho’s decision to focus on securing a point.

“Let them (criticise) – we’ll see where we are at the end of the season,” he said.

“We respect our opponents. They are a good team at home with the crowd who get behind their side.

“We would have liked to have got three points - but Anfield is a difficult place to come and if you can’t win the game you’ve got to make sure you can’t lose it.”

David De Gea was the star at Anfield, again saving United from defeat.

Man Utd News: Phil Jones was happy with the Red Devils' draw against Liverpool

The Spain international produced a stunning close-range stop to deny Joel Matip from giving Liverpool all three points.

And, speaking after the game, De Gea expressed his delight at keeping another clean sheet.

“Everything happened so quickly,” he said.

“I put my foot out as quickly as possible and saved the ball, so I’m happy for that.”
