De Gea pulled off the moment of an otherwise dull match when he saved Joel Matip’s effort from close range.

United kept Liverpool at bay for 90 minutes to frustrate their title rivals.

And De Gea was asked to assess his own save by MUTV.

“Everything happened so quickly,” he said.

“I put my foot out as quickly as possible and saved the ball, so I’m happy for that.”

David De Gea kept his eighth clean sheet of the season

De Gea produced his eighth clean sheet of the season for United on Saturday, while he has also kept out Italy and Albania while playing for Spain on international duty.

And his club team-mate Matteo Darmian, who played the full 90 minutes at Anfield, was all praise for his goalkeeper.

“I’m happy that he’s playing well and we didn’t concede a goal because of him. It’s always important for goalkeepers [to not concede],” Darmian told MUTV.

David De Gea: It's a dream to play for Manchester United

“Like I have said in some interviews before, I think David [De Gea] in this moment is the best goalkeeper in the world, so we are lucky to have him in our squad. I think he is a great goalkeeper!”

Discussing the match, Nemanja Matic said: “They [Liverpool] had some great chances and David, as always, was perfect and that’s why he’s one of the best goalkeepers in the world.”
