Man Utd news: Ibrahimovic would have scored Lukaku’s chance against Liverpool

ZLATAN IBRAHIMOVIC would have buried Romelu Lukaku’s chance for Manchester United against Liverpool, reckons Ray Wilkins.

Romelu Lukaku struggled to make an impact

Lukaku started Saturday’s match with a record of 15 goals in 56 games against Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham combined.

The Belgian was an isolated figure up front as United struggled to create clear-cut chances.

But Lukaku had a decent chance to score in the goalless draw, only for his shot to fall too close to Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet.

After the match, the 24-year-old received criticism from the likes of Gary Neville, who said the striker had no influence on the game.

And, while analyzing whether Lukaku still had a point to prove against big games, Wilkins had no doubts he will come good despite thinking Ibrahimovic would have scored.

He told Sky Sports: “That’s what has been labelled at him.

“He got himself into a good area and he didn’t have to rush it and could take his time.

“I really did think that he would put that one way.

“I’ve got a little feeling Ibrahimovic might would have finished that.

“I think he will score a bunch when he plays against the top six. I don’t think it matters with Lukaku.

“Manchester United have got so many options to create chances for him that he’s going to have bundles of chances and he will score a bucketload, I’m sure.”
