Real Madrid vs Tottenham: Glenn Hoddle has explained what Spurs must do tonight

That is the view of former Tottenham manager and midfielder Glenn Hoddle.

Harry Winks starts for Spurs tonight, with Victor Wanyama and Mousa Dembele both missing with injury.

Hoddle reckons Mauricio Pochettino's side will look to match Real Madrid's diamond formation in midfield and is looking forward to seeing Harry Kane play off of Fernando Llorente up front.

“We think they are going to go with a back four," Hoddle said on BT Sport.

"They can slip into a back three if they want to, but it may give them a problem with the left wing-back.

"These four in midfield have got to work extremely hard.

"They’ve got to condense the space in there.

"Tottenham might match them (with the diamond formation).

Tottenham fans bash Gareth Bale in cheeky chant

"I think looking at it they might think ‘well we are away’ it’s a little bit, not a freebie, but if they did get beat no one is going to be surprised.

"They might actually say ‘we are going to blanket you and stop you playing’ and get Harry Kane a little bit deeper, just in behind (Fernando) Llorente.

"Harry’s going to arrive in the box and I think that’s quite a cute position for him anyway."

The game ended 1-1, with a Raphael Varane own-goal putting Spurs head before Cristiano Ronaldo equalised from the penalty spot.
