Man Utd news: Chelsea's loss to Crystal Palace sent a warning to Mourinho, says Wright

That is the view of Arsenal legend and Sky Sports pundit Ian Wright.

Mourinho has come under criticism for his side’s performance in the 0-0 draw against Liverpool on Saturday.

Wright believes the Portuguese manager went to Anfield with only one intention - to get a point.

But he says that is a dangerous tactic because Chelsea’s shock defeat to Crystal Palace shows anyone can beat anyone in the Premier League, so you can’t choose games you want to win.

Palace, hadn’t won in seven, hadn’t scored a goal, they beat them. You can’t take anyone for granted in this league

Ian Wright on Man Utd boss Jose Mourinho

“Why is Jose Mourinho coming out and saying ‘I was expecting them to take off a couple of people so I would be able to do this’?” Wright said.

“Why is he making excuses for? Why is he making excuses?

"If he thinks that is a good point then he should say that’s a good point. I think that is what he should have said.

“If you’re going to start picking points that you’re going to get, and I think they had a good opportunity to go to Liverpool and beat them, we saw what happened to Chelsea if you’re not on it.

“You can’t take anyone for granted in this league.

“You have to beat the teams with the form you’re going into the game with.

“That’s the difference with Pep (Guardiola). Look what (Manchester) City did to Stoke.”

Manchester United are in Champions League action tonight, with a trip to Portuguese outfit Benfica (7.45pm).
