Chelsea news: Tiemoue Bakayoko needs to prove his worth, says Glenn Hoddle

That is the view of BT Sport pundit and former Chelsea manager and midfielder Glen Hoddle.

Bakayoko arrived from Ligue 1 side Monaco in July as a direct replacement in midfield for Nemanja Matic.

Matic switched Chelsea for Premier League title rivals Manchester United, a deal which Hoddle cannot understand.

Speaking after the 3-3 Champions League draw with Roma last night, Hoddle says Bakayoko must start to live up to the reputation he earned in France.

“Bakayoko has got to come to the fray,” Hoddle said of the 23-year-old.

“He’s got to do more for me.

“He’s come over with a reputation and I’m not quite sure yet what he’s got.

“He’s a big, strong player but he got knocked off the ball a few times tonight.

Chelsea news: Hoddle has hit out at the decision to let Nemanja Matic join Man Utd

“Does he get in the box? Does he hold? I’m not sure.

“The loss of Matic, Matic going to Manchester United, I’m scratching my head still.

“You don’t give him to one of your rivals.

“He’s playing superb for United and he’s a big miss for Chelsea.”
