Man Utd tipped to appoint Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino as Jose Mourinho successor

MANCHESTER UNITED are being tipped to make Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino their next manager by the bookies.

Mourinho criticises Lovren for 'contradicting' Lukaku comments

Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United future has been plunged into uncertainty after the 54-year-old flirted with the prospect of managing PSG.

And, speaking before the Red Devils’ Champions League game against Benfica, Jose Mourinho admitted he was not in talks over a new contract.

"In one day, it says I am going to sign a five-year contract, £1 billion per season,” he said ahead of that European tie.

“The next day you say I am leaving and I'm going to Paris Saint-Germain. The answer is exactly that.

"Nothing is happening, I am not signing a new five-year contract and I am not leaving for Paris Saint-Germain.

“I am not leaving Manchester United. I have a contract and that's it."

And BetStars have made Pochettino the clear favourite to take over at odds of 4/1.

BetStars Director of Trading Ian Marmion said: “After Jose Mourinho admitted that it was unlikely he will end his managerial career at Old Trafford, PSG have emerged as the 6/4 favourites to snap up the three-time Premier League winner and BetStars are already offering odds on The Special One’s immediate replacement at Manchester United.

“Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino is the clear frontrunner at 4/1 to be Jose’s successor at Old Trafford, while Luis Enrique and Diego Simeone are both priced at 6/1 to fill the boots of the former Real Madrid gaffer.

Jose Mourinho's future has grown uncertain at Manchester United

“United veteran, Ryan Giggs, who won 34 major trophies during his playing career for the Red Devils, can be backed at 33/1 to become the next manager of Man United on a permanent basis.

“Sam Allardyce and Roy Keane are both long shots at 100/1, while Harry Redknapp is the total outsider at 500/1 to substitute in for the Special One.”

Should United lose Mourinho, they will be forced to make a fourth managerial appointment since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013.

David Moyes succeeded his fellow Scot but lasted just 10 months in the job.

Louis van Gaal ruled the roost for the two years after that but, after winning just the FA Cup, also received his P60.
